Higher Ed Strike Pledge

University employees united for respect, good jobs, and debt-free education!

Oregonians increased Higher Ed funding by $100 million this year because we value the jobs and education public universities provide in our communities. But we’re not getting a good deal.  Despite a record high budget, the university system is raising tuition on in-state students and pushing its low-wage employees into poverty.  Here’s the proposal they have on the table:
  • A meaningless “cost of living increase” of one half of one percent. It doesn’t come close to keeping up with the cost of living.
  • Permanently changing the salary step system so it takes twice as long for employees' salaries to grow – effectively a wage cut.
  • Raising student tuition between 5 and 9%.

We believe that public universities should provide good jobs and debt-free education to our communities. But they’re going backwards.

Strike Pledge

I am united with my coworkers in calling on University Administration to make the following commitments:

Providing fair wages to classified staff;

Keeping healthcare affordable; and

Allowing us fair representation from our union.

If these commitments are not reflected in specific bargaining proposals from management, I will vote to authorize, and participate in, a strike.
